Pont de Sèvres: Improving accessibility to the bus station

The future Grand Paris Express station will connect with metro M9 and tramway T2 and give access to a fast-developing area. 95000 passengers per day are expected in the station.

In that context, it becomes necessary to improve the quality of pedestrian access to the bus hub and ensure all traffic can be accommodated.

Explain was chosen by The Département des Hauts-de-Seine to develop a microsimulation model, compare solutions and derive the best option.

Inventing Greater Paris

saint-denis-pleyel--socit-du-grand-paris-agence-kengo-kuma-associates-1EXPLAIN is part of the teams selected by Greater Paris to invent an innovative urban project around the future Saint-Denis Pleyel Greater Paris Express station.

The site is at the heart of the area in the running for hosting the 2024 Olympic Games. Beginning in 2023, it will become a major hub on the metropolitan level, due to the Saint-Denis Pleyel train station, a unique junction point for connections between the GPE lines 14, 15, 16 and 17, the Parisian Metro line 13 and lines D and H of the Transilien network.

EXPLAIN brings its expertise on all transportation aspects including accessibility by all modes and parking issues.

Transportation Regional Master Plan: EXPLAIN chosen by the Grand Est region

reimsalsaceSince 7 August 2015, the role of the regions has been reinforced and each region must produce a policy framework which fixes rules with regard to energy, climate change, biodiversity, waste management etc. and fret and passenger transport.

In that context EXPLAIN has been chosen to contribute to the transport element of the plan which will address the following:

  • infrastructure (airports, ports, canals, railways, highways, cycle lanes),
  • passenger transport,
  • freight transport,
  • intermodal transport (information, fares & ticketing).

Montparnasse Metro station: EXPLAIN develops a pedestrian model

6178248395_484402d25e_oThe volume of passenger is expected to grow significantly in the Montparnasse station as a result of the opening of several new high speed lines: Tour-Bordeaux in 2017 and then Bordeaux-Toulouse and Bordeaux-Dax.

In that context, the station needs to be adapted to offer passengers as good level of service as possible and a safe environment.

EXPLAIN was chosen by RATP to develop a pedestrian model that covers the whole metro area (4 metro lines) and to evaluate the impact of several scenarios so as to identify the most efficient solution.

Grand Paris Express : EXPLAIN chosen to design the Saint-Cloud station

In 2025, Saint Cloud will be one of the 11 stations of line 15 West of the Grand Paris Express. The station expects 85 000 passengers per day and currently has around 15 000. The new station is located next to the existing one and needs to be designed to accommodate new passengers in the best possible conditions.

In that context, EXPLAIN has been chosen to design the interchange and propose equipment to ensure good accessibility for non car users.

 

EXPLAIN chosen to propose new BRT lines in the Paris Region

bus expressEXPLAIN has been chosen by STIF to define new BRT lines and their characteristics.

Strength and weaknesses of existing lines are first identified and improvements are being proposed. In a second phase, new lines are being defined.

The intention is to improve the attractiveness of the bus network by creating fast and reliable lines with the objective to encourage modal shift from private cars to public transport.

EXPLAIN chosen to propose innovative solutions for managing parking spaces at train stations

P1030271Suburban train stations offering access to large metropolitan areas are subject to strong parking pressure with many commuters accessing by car. This situation can be a source of conflicts with those who live in the vicinity of stations and use valuable land which could be devoted to other urban projects.

The Hauts-de-France region asked EXPLAIN to identify new technology based solutions that could be experimented around selected regional train stations. For each of the proposed solutions, we identified technical, financial barriers as well as governance constraints.
