The commissioning of the subway B extension in the fall of 2023 constitutes a major change in the organization of mobility municipalities in western Lyon.
The arrival of two new stations changes the interchange hubs, the access times to the structural network and the logic of reconnecting to the subway.
To support this evolution, Explain was commissioned by Sytral Mobilities To drive a global study on the restructuring of the bus network, covering both the old terminus and the new area served by the metro.
The mission was organized into two complementary components:
The study paid particular attention to the intermodal coherence, to the readability of the offer for users and to the prioritization of lines, in a context of network transition.
Thanks to this mission, Sytral Mobilities Has a clear and operational restructuring plan, consistent with the evolutions of the structuring network. The detailed knowledge of the Lyon territory mobilized by Explain allowed a quick start with the study and the formulation of proposals adapted to local dynamics. The work carried out facilitates the prioritization of actions and coordination between the various actors in public transport.
This study illustrates the ability ofExplain to support the organizing authorities in complex network restructuring projects, in direct connection with the commissioning of new heavy infrastructures.
The intervention carried out for Sytral Mobilities contributes to ensuring a effective integration of the B subway extension in the Lyon transport system, for the benefit of users and the overall performance of the network.
