Traffic study - Le Pellerin

Located to the west of Nantes, the town of Pellerin is part of a dynamic of urban requalification and of transition towards more peaceful mobility.
The traffic study commissioned by Explain came in support of a Urban study in progress, in order to verify the technical feasibility and consistency of travel proposals.

The analysis was structured around several axes:

  • Diagnosis of the existing road network : traffic, parking, organization of intersections and legibility of traffic directions.
  • Assessment of development scenarios proposed as part of the urban study, with a focus on impacts of one-way traffic on certain streets and on the served by bus lines 78 and 301.
  • Flow simulation by 2030, making it possible to measure the effects of the doubling of the number of bins and the reorganization of the storage route.
  • Complementary analysis on the safety of pedestrian and cycling trips, and the continuity of routes with existing networks.

Explain has formulated targeted recommendations to reinforce the coherence between urban choices and real mobility conditions, while ensuring the balance between traffic, parking, public transport and pedestrian areas.

Objectifs clés

The aim of the study was to securing city center development choices in terms of mobility.
The main objectives were to:

  • Verify the compatibility between the urban study and the functioning of the existing network;
  • Anticipate the impacts of traffic changes on public transport and active modes;
  • Identify the adjustments needed for improve the readability and safety of the traffic plan ;
  • Propose recommendations to integrate sustainable mobility into the requalification of the city center.

Bénéfices

The intervention ofExplain allowed Nantes Métropole to have a in-depth technical expertise on traffic and parking, effectively complementing the urban reflections initiated. The recommendations formulated made it possible to maintaining coherence between the different modes of travel, to anticipate future needs and to ensure a better link between urban planning and mobility.Explain's approach, which is both rigorous and pragmatic, has offered the community clear and well-reasoned decision support, facilitating the operational implementation of the project.

Conclusion

The mission conducted at Pellerin made it possible to integrate the challenges of mobility, safety and user comfort into the planning of the city center, reinforcing the overall coherence of the urban project.
