Since 2021, the Metropolis of Lyon and SYTRAL Mobilities have embarked on an extensive program of studies on the multimodal drawdown to TER stations of the territory.
The stations of Villefranche-sur-Saône and Anse, located outside the metropolitan area but included in the territorial jurisdiction of SYTRAL, had not yet been the subject of such a study.

Explain has therefore driven a comprehensive survey and survey campaign intended to draw up a Overview of uses and access conditions at these two stations:

  • Face-to-face investigations with train users to identify origins, destinations, frequency of use and reasons for travel.
  • Counting ascents and descents on the docks, in order to estimate attendance volumes.
  • Car park surveys to differentiate between pull-down parking and resident parking.
  • Occupancy and turnover rate surveys on the main car parks in the perimeter.

The data collected makes it possible to evaluate the structure of mobility demand (origin/destination, frequency, access and distribution methods, travel time), as well as the Propensity for modal change and incentives for more sustainable mobility.

Explain provided the synthesis and feedback of results in the form of dashboards, cartographic indicators and cross-analyses, guaranteeing a clear and usable reading for SYTRAL Mobilities and partner communities.

Objectifs clés

The objective of the mission was to provide SYTRAL Mobilities with a complete overview of drawdown practices at Villefranche-sur-Saône and Anse train stations, in order to inform decisions on intermodality and parking.
Explain aimed to:

  • Identify user profiles and their practices for accessing the station;
  • Quantify the volumes of drawdown and distribution according to the modes;
  • Evaluate the relevance of existing developments and the needs for evolution;
  • Provide food for thought on the prioritization of the territory's rail hubs.

Bénéfices

The study allowed SYTRAL Mobilities to have a up-to-date and consistent knowledge uses at both stations, in line with the other sites on the Villefranche—Lyon axis.The results offer a solid basis for the planning of intermodal developments : creation of bicycle parking, adaptation of car fleets, improvement of pedestrian traffics.Explain provided a proven expertise in mobility surveys And a cross-sectional analysis capacity integrating territorial, social and operational dimensions.

Conclusion

This mission illustrates the ability toExplain To drive large-scale multimodal surveys, while guaranteeing methodological rigor and speed of execution. The work carried out for SYTRAL Mobilities reinforces the understanding of travel practices in the northern train stations of the Lyon metropolitan area and contributes to the definition of an integrated and sustainable mobility policy.
